Writer is local-first. Notes are stored as real files on disk (not a proprietary database).

Default vault

By default, your notes root directory is:

~/Writer

What’s inside

• *.md notes
• *.canvas canvas files (JSON)
• image/ imported images (e.g. ~/Writer/image/...)
